Abstract
Breast cancer is a disease that strikes at much more than the physical self. Because of the implications of breast cancer and its affects on social, familial, parental, and sexual roles, I suggest that this ailment brings to focus some of the important considerations that must be addressed in analyzing health care systems and their effectiveness. To prove this point, I am using Peru as a case study, and breast cancer patients as a specific example, of how some of the variations in backgrounds of patients affect their ability to obtain their preferred treatment. Above all, I hope that the methods of my study can be applied more broadly by those in related fields of research, and that the perspective of my argument can be taken into consideration by critical readers of similar works.
